Frequently Asked Questions

We hope that this information will help give you a better understanding of our Bay State Blades skating programs. Please feel free to contact Bay State Blades at 781-826-8798 if you have other questions regarding the programs or email us at info@baystateblades.com.

Q:  Are helmets required?
A:
Helmets are strongly recommended but not required (HECC hockey helmets are recommended, not bike helmets).

Q: Are skates available for the lesson?
A:
Skates will be available free of charge on a first come, first serve basis. If you decide to buy your own skates, please remember that only single blade skates are allowed during lessons.

Q: What time should I arrive on the day of lessons?
A:
It is a good idea to arrive 15-20 minutes early to check in with the instructor and get fitted for the proper size skates.  Please note that after the class begins the instructor will no longer be available to assist with skate fittings, as their primary responsibility is the instruction of the class. Rink personnel will be on hand to assist with skates.

Q:  What is the refund policy?
A:
Bay State Blades will refund the cost of the program prior to the start of the first class for that session minus a $20 processing fee. After the start of the second class, no refund is given. (This policy applies whether or not the student was present during the first class.)

Q:  Are there make-up classes available?
A:
There are no make-up classes for missed classes. Session are subject to cancellation if enrollment is insufficient.

Q:  Are there classes during school vacation weeks?
A:
BSB does not schedule classes during the weeks of Thanksgiving, December vacation or February vacation.

Q: How will I know if a lesson has been cancelled during a snow day?
A: Bay State Blades does not cancel skating lessons due to inclement weather or local school cancellations. Classes are ONLY cancelled if the Governor declares a State of Emergency (NOT individual city/town state of emergencies).

Q: What clothing is appropriate for lessons?
A:
The skater should be dressed in warm comfortable clothing, which will not restrict their movements. Remember gloves (or mittens) too!

Q:  Are parents and other siblings allowed on the ice during the lesson?
A:
Parents and siblings are NOT allowed on the ice during the lesson, unless they are registered for the skating class. NO ONE may be on the ice WITHOUT SKATES.

Q:  How much progress should I expect during the program?
A:
It should be expected that the skaters will progress at different rates, depending on many factors such as: age, maturity, natural ability, practice, and previous skating experience.  These programs are designed to introduce skaters to the fun of ice skating in a non-pressured, positive environment.
