Frequently Asked Questions...

We hope that this information will help give you a better understanding of what the Learn to Skate program is all about. Please feel free to contact Bay State Blades at 781-871-7681 if you have other questions regarding the program.

Q: How will I know if a lesson has been cancelled due to bad weather?
A:
Bay State Blades does not cancel skating lessons due to inclement weather or local school cancellations. Classes are ONLY cancelled if the Governor declares a State of Emergency (NOT individual city/town state of emergencies).

Q: What should my child wear to the Learn to Skate lessons?
A:
You should dress your child in warm comfortable clothing, which will not restrict their movements.

Q: What time should I arrive on the day of lessons?
A:
It is a good idea to arrive 15-20 minutes early to check in with the instructor and get fitted for the proper size skates.  Please note that after the class begins the instructor will no longer be available to assist you with skate fittings, as their primary responsibility is the instruction of the class. Rink personnel will be on hand to assist with skates.

Q:  Are helmets required?
A:
Helmets are strongly suggested but not required. (HECC helmets, with a face cage and chin guard, are recommended).

Q: Are skates available to my child during the lesson?
A:
Skates will be available free of charge on a first come, first serve basis. If you decide to buy skates for your child, please remember that only single blade skates are allowed.

Q:  How much progress should I expect my child to make during the Learn to Skate program?
A:
It should be expected that the children will progress at different rates, depending on many factors such as: age, maturity, natural ability, practice, and previous skating experience.  The Learn to Skate program is designed to introduce children to the fun of ice skating in a non-pressured, positive environment.

Q:  Are parents and other siblings allowed on the ice during the lesson?
A:
Parents and siblings are not allowed on the ice during the lesson unless they are registered for the class.

Q:  What is the refund policy?
A:
Bay State Blades will refund the full cost of the program prior to the start of the first class for that session. After the first class of the session, a refund (or BSB credit for another session) will be given for the remaining classes minus a $20 processing fee. After the start of the second class, no refund is given. (This policy applies whether or not the student was present during the first class.)

Q:  What is the next step for my child upon completion of the program?
